New software update - don't install it!!!! Empty New software update - don't install it!!!!

I just downloaded and installed the newest version 1.7.0 and I can't get it to get past "loading icons..." The previous version worked fine and I can't even reinstall that one. Why can't they test this stuff before they release it??????? I hate to think I am going to have to remove it and start from scratch - what happens to all of my files if that's the case? Can you tell I am NOT happy about this??????
